The Building The design is modeled after the barn structures that characterize the area’s farming heritage. The Heritage Center will contain a lobby, main hall, restrooms, and kitchen. The construction will incorporate energy efficiency and solar technologies The architects of our Heritage Center, Frances Campani and Michael Schwarting, were winners of one of eleven awards granted by the American Institute of Architects for a project in NYC! They have designed a beautiful and versatile Heritage Center. We are proud of them and their involvement with our mission. Francis and Michael state “We have designed a building that is in keeping with this part of Long Island that has an important agricultural history and character. The building will contain uplifting spaces to house the process of community building. The building is also contemporary and looks to the future in its use of state-of-the-art energy efficient and sustainable technology. It is our hope that it will become an important "landmark" in the community.” Remember the Heritage Community Center is a project of the not-for-profit Heritage Trust. The Center is on Heritage Trust land adjacent to land owned by Suffolk County. The Heritage Trust will schedule the use of the Heritage Community Center. Whole Building Design The Heritage Trust has partnered with LIPA in its Whole Building Design Program. Frances Campani and Michael Schwarting, architects for the Heritage Trust, worked with the engineers of LIPA to design a building that integrates various energy efficient and renewable energy technologies. This integrated approach will reduce the energy demands of the building compared to a traditionally designed building. LIPA’s program encourages this program by offering a rebate after the energy technologies are installed. The energy efficient design will increase capital building costs but these costs will be offset with rebates from LIPA and a large reduction in on-going energy costs once the building is up and running. These energy features will be used as the basis for future educational programs offered at the center. Structural Insulated Panels
Solar Energy Kyocera Photovoltaic Panels
Photovoltaic panels will be placed on the roof of the south side of the building. These panels will convert sunlight to electricity. The electricity will be used to run the energy systems of the building or if not needed in the building the electricity will be transferred to the electrical grid of LIPA. Gary Minnick of GoSolar has helped the Heritage Trust with the design features of the photovoltaic system. Other Energy Technologies The windows, lights and mechanical systems of the building are also energy efficient. The goal of the architects and the Trust is to create a building that will be use our natural resources wisely. the energy efficient design will increase capital Contact us at MSHeritagetrust@aol.com or 631-473-2206 Donate a Brick to Help Build and Furnish the Heritage Center!
